The Independent Movement Gives Birth to a New Party: The People’s Voice Becomes the Compass of the Struggle
Jakarta — A national consolidation held earlier this year marked a pivotal turning point in Indonesia’s political landscape. Emerging from grassroots momentum and a drive to strengthen people’s self-reliance, the Gema Bangsa Party was born—a new political party grounded in the principles of decentralization and regional empowerment.
Initiated by figures from diverse backgrounds—including a former secretary-general of a major party and civil society activists—the party firmly asserts that it does not belong to the elite, but to the people. In what became known as the Jakarta Declaration 2025, the initiators declared that this party was established as a vehicle for the struggle to realize national self-reliance, beginning with individuals and local communities.
Chairman of the Gema Bangsa Party, Ahmad Rofiq, emphasized that the party’s structure would be built autonomously in each region. “We want to reverse the old logic: it’s not the center that dictates the regions, but the regions that define the direction,” he stated in his opening speech.
The party’s tagline, Indonesia Reborn, Indonesia Mandiri (Independent Indonesia), reflects their bold vision: to build a nation no longer dependent on centralized power, but one that grows from the strength of a conscious, self-reliant, and sovereign people.
