Spirituality as the Foundation of National Independence: IKADA UNJ Ramadan Motivational Webinar

Spirituality: The Moral Compass for Building National Independence

JAKARTA – Amid the intense discussions about economic growth, technological advancement, and geopolitical strength, one fundamental foundation is often overlooked—spirituality.

Without a strong moral foundation, material progress risks losing its direction. Spirituality therefore becomes the compass that guides a nation to remain on the path of integrity, honesty, and responsibility.

Ramadan Reflection in an Intellectual Forum

This awareness became the central theme of a gathering organized by Ikatan Doktor Alumni Universitas Negeri Jakarta (IKADA) during a Ramadan Motivational Webinar and Iftar Gathering, held at the Balairung of Hotel Matraman on Friday (March 13).

The intellectual forum carried the theme “Spirituality as the Foundation of Nationhood: A Strong Nation Begins with Devout Souls.” The theme highlights that a nation’s strength is not determined solely by natural resources or technological progress, but also by the moral quality of its people.

Spirituality as the Foundation of National Resilience

The Deputy Chairman of IKADA Jakarta, Dr. Abdul Ghofar, MM., M.Pd., who served as the main speaker and joined the event in a hybrid format, emphasized that national resilience cannot rely solely on economic and political power. There is a deeper and more fundamental dimension: the spiritual strength of society.

“A strong nation is born from people who possess devotion to God. From that devotion emerge honesty, discipline, and responsibility—values that bind and sustain harmonious national life,” he said.

According to him, spirituality is not merely a religious ritual but a moral energy that shapes individual character and collective culture. When religious values truly guide social life, integrity becomes not just a slogan but a living culture within society.

Ramadan as a Momentum for Personal and National Renewal

In this context, Ramadan serves as a strategic moment for reflection. The holy month is not only a time for personal worship but also an opportunity to strengthen collective awareness about the importance of morality in national life.

Fasting teaches discipline, patience, and self-control—values that contribute to building a more honest, responsible, and integrity-driven society.

Nurturing Intellectual Reason and Conscience

The discussion also served as a platform for intellectual fellowship among doctoral alumni of Universitas Negeri Jakarta. More than just an academic gathering, the forum emphasized that knowledge and spirituality must go hand in hand to produce meaningful contributions to society and the nation.

The event, which began at 4:30 PM, concluded with an interactive dialogue and a communal iftar. Through this forum, IKADA reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a space where intellectuals cultivate both reason and conscience.

In an era of increasingly complex challenges, the message conveyed in this forum remains highly relevant: a nation’s independence ultimately depends on the moral quality of its people. And that morality grows from the spirituality that lives within the soul of society.
